Guides and Further Reading

Lonely Planet Guides
Available nearly everywhere, introductory sections of all Lonely Planet guides contain a wealth of information on visas, health and other things which affect the traveller, and which are much more complete than the brief descriptions in this list.

Preservation of Personal Health in Warm Climates by The Ross Institute of Tropical Hygiene, published by the London School of Hygiene & Tropical Medicine.

Desert Expeditions is an 84 pages (!) long PDF file describing in detail how to make a desert expedition. Amazing!

The Travel Doctor. This company call themselves "Travel Medicine Consultants" and are located in Texas. Their website offers a lot of helpful information about travel medicine.

Health Tips for the Tropical Traveller
The Canadian Government is pretty protective of it's citizens and produces an avalanche of info designed to keep them safe and sanitised while travelling. I imagine many other governments produce similar information.

Travel Clubs/Organisations

The Globetrotters Club. This club recently celebrated it's 50th anniversary. It's a faceless organisation, operated on a shoestring budget largely by volunteers, producing an informative newsletter 6 times per year, full of interesting stories and tips about, mainly, low budget travelling. The membership includes some of the world's most interesting travellers. It has members world wide - meetings occur in Toronto, Ontario, Canada and in London, England on a regular basis.
